Full day in Vienna today and our plans to go shopping were scuppered due to everywhere being closed on a Sunday! Ridiculous how much is actually closed!! Instead we decided to do some sightseeing. We went to find the huge London eye type Ferris wheel the other side of the main city area and it was such a disappointment. Very run down area with a mini fairground. We then decided to go back and find Hofburg palace, much better! Lovely ice creams were bought on the way to cool us down (Ellie particularly enjoyed her caramel and apple scoops whilst the hazelnut scoop in mine was amazing). When we got to the palace Ellie confronted her fear of horses by going on a horse and carriage short tour round the city. It was great! On our tour we spotted a music festival going on so when we finished the tour we wandered back to that and had a gorgeous lunch of steak, vegetables and jacket potato. We washed this down with a pint of the local draught beer 'Ottakringer'. Ellie went for normal and I tried the citrus version. Amazing! We then visited Schonbrunn Palace which was pretty spectacular. Now we are back in the hotel packing everything back upon rucksacks ready for our next train journey tomorrow. Next stop: Prague!

Alison Ooh, it all sounds so lovely......and great pics too! Most shops close in Austria & Germany on a Sunday, some still close early on a Saturday too...yes, really! (Just thought I'd mention it ready for next weekend!) Ax
