Well we've arrived here in Argentina and we've settled into our hostel well although i think we would win the award for the most cramped bathroom ever, as you have to sit down on the loo and swing your legs round to get into the shower. But hey at least its warm in this hostel, exactly what you need when the weather is so grotty.
When we arrived we didnt do much as it was late afternoon so we just wandered the streets near our hostel and got something to eat.
Yesterday we set off for the Casa rosada (pink palace) where in the plaza there were millions of the fattest pigeons ive ever seen and people were feeding them and they were just landing all over the people - ewww needless to say Vic and i did not buy any food for them and didnt like it when they came too close. From there we walked on into San Telmo, which is very antiquey as there was a huge antiques market that sold all sorts of crap as well as some nice things. We wandered about there in the hustle and bustle getting elbowed out the way by the Argentinian david-dickenson-like people. Within the market there were a couple of Tango displays and a few bands busking so it had a good atmosphere to it.
We walked back via the obelisco which sits slap bang in the middle of Av 9de Julio which i think is the broadest avenue boasting 12 lanes!! - nightmare to cross! We also went to have a look at the apparently magnificent Teatro Colon which actually was a let down as it was covered by netting and scaffolding a lot of it.
We got back to the hostel about 4pm and waited around for half an hour before we got picked up by minibus to be taken to the Boca Juniors game. Apparently la Boca is the most dangerous neighbourhood so your best to go with a tour, so we got given our tickets and led to our seats (that were cement) right at the top of the ground practically. It was a good view and we could see what was happening all around the stadium, with the Boca band going for the entire match, the small amount of St Martin (the opposition) fans trying to sing loudly, bundles of paper being blown and thrown everywhere. It all had a great atmosphere to it, even though it was lashing down and we were all soaking and cold.
Today we're hopefully going to organise some trips while we're in Argentina, so fingers crossed we can do that as its a bank hol here today - S America seem to have so many public hols!
