Well we managed to book our tours and so on tuesday evening we got on yet another over night bus up to the Iguazu falls which are the furthest north in Argentina and are shared over the border with Brasil. It took 17 hours on the bus to get up there but the seats were the most comfortable we had as they reclined and you got a foot/leg rest so they were practically like a bed and you got a blanket and a pillow. Also on these fancy coaches we got fed and watered. The food was a bit like plane food although it was OK, Vic managed to drop her creme caramel all over her lap hehe. We even got offered whisky or champagne after we'd eaten! We watched a couple of crappy films either dubbed in Spanish with Eng subtitles or in English with Spanish subtitles.
We arrived in Puerto Iguazu about midday on Wed and were picked up and taken to our hotel which was nice enough, a massive room and bathroom. We had very quick showers and then at 2.30pm we were picked up again for our first tour into the falls. The driver faffed about with our passports and picking everyone else up (it was about a 12 seater minibus) then we were off into the iguazu national park and across the border to Brasil and then we had a couple of hours walking around the Brazilian side of the falls which is spectacular, theres one walkway where you get soaked from the spray of the 'devils throat'. Our guide spoke only spanish so was of no use to us, but we got chatting to a girl from Mexico who translated a bit for us.
When we got back to the hotel that night we went straight for dinner (we had got 1/2 board inc in the package), which was a big buffet with loads of salad and a couple of hot dishes and a few desserts, it was all really nice, esp after we feel like we've just been eating fast food it was nice to have proper food.
The next day we were up early for brekkie and then were picked up at 8.15am for our full day excursion to the Argentine side o0f the falls. Once we were in the park, (this time we were in a far bigger group but the guide spoke english and spanish today) we got on a train up to the top of the falls and it was quite spectacular as on the Brazil side you only look up at them or across but looking down on them you can see how much water is rushing over the top and how far the water falls (about 80m). We got quite wet again there due to the spray, and then we were off walking around the top route, which walked us over the top of most of the significant falls and over the river.
We stopped for lunch and Vic and I decided that in the afternoon instead of walking all the lower route we would go on the boat ride into the falls (only an extra 100 pesos (30quid)) so half way through the lower walk in the afternoon those of the group (about half) who were doing the boat ride went and got on it. We had to put life jackets on and put our stuff (inc shoes) into a waterproof bag and then we were off in a very speedy speed boat up to the falls on both sides of Green Island for quick photie opps and then it was cameras away and we flew into the actual waterfall and everything and everyone got soaked!!! It was amazing how wet you actually get when you know your actually quite far away from where the water is landing. After getting absolutely drenched a few times we then flew off down the river, thankfully it was warm so it wasnt cold at all even tho we were soaked. The driver then did some 360 turns in the boat as we were flying down the river. Then we got off furthwer down from where we'd got on and had to walk up millions of steps, on the way up we got chatting to a woman and her son, he was travelling S America for a couple of months and shed come out to see him, so we were chatting with him as he'd already done peru, but we were both going to Brasil next. At the top we had a little wait then got onto a big 4x4 vehichle that drove us through some jungle back to the entrance of the park where we then met up with our guide again and got a lift back to the hotel.
On Friday we just hung about the hotel as it was too far from the town to go down to as we were getting picked up again from the hotel to be taken back to the bus stop for the bus home (over night again). We got the bus at 3.45, again watched the films and ate and slept and then at 8am we arrived back in Buenos Aires bus station.
At the Station we had a quick go on the internet and got some more money out then we got a taxi to the port as we then got the 11.15am ferry to Colonia (Uruguay) and from there a bus to Montevideo where we arrived at our hotel at about 3pm.
Suprise suprise another Bank Holiday again so everything was pretty dead and very little was open so we had a brief wander about but theres not a lot of sights to see, theres a fair few statues about in the plazas but no idea what they are.
On the sunday we got up and went and checked out the Big Market in Montevideo but although it was massive all the stalls were just repitions of themselves, fruit and veg, hair clips and bobbles and junk, so we wandered about for a couple of hours and then headed back to the hotel. We got picked up at 4.45pm and taken back to the bus station where we did the bus back to Colonia and then the boat back to Buenos Aires again.
So that was last night that we arrived back in Buenos Aires and today we're just taking the time to update our blog and do washing that sort of stuff oh and hopefully find some accomodation for tomorrow night in Brasil!!
We fly to Sao Paulo tomorrow lunchtime, which can you believe it will be our 11th country since we've been gone!
