Jen's Journeys
I ill cut to right now to explain my title. Jeanne and I just walked in at 11:15 pm and found that our 58-year old host is not even at home that early on a Saturday night! Ah well... So today started out quite slowly. I was awake by about 9:30, but laid in bed for quite a while waiting for Jeanne to wake up. So by the time we we both ready to go, it was pretty much already too late to bother taking our planned day trip to San Sebastian. (No worries - we have all week!) And as it had clouded up, we decided to just stay in town and walk around a bit. So, we got on the bus and headed down the river to the Calatrava bridge. (Same Spanish architect that designed the Milwaukee Art Museum.) took some pictures, but as you can see it was a pretty cloudy day. So, the Guggenheim museum isn't as shiny as it is on a sunny day. We then found a cafe to have lunch (I wasn't kidding about that slow start), and then the rain moved in. So, we loitered for a while, and wound up going to the Corte Ingles (Spanish department store). I bought an umbrella and Jeanne actually nearly bought a whole new warm outfit. With this we were able to make our way across town to the local mall/movie theater. W missed the movie we were hopng for, so wound up doing a little window shopping and finally getting tickets to a 7 pm movie. Just before going in, though, I got a call from one of our kids. In the grand scheme of things, it wasn't a huge deal, but to put it simply, she's a super duper goody two shoes (hey, I'm not judging, if you've known me for any portion of my life, this is somewhat like the pot calling the kettle black) and her host sister is a tattooed, colored hair punk girl. So, this is apparently not going too well, but that's part of the home stay experience. Getting out of your comfort zone. Sometimes, waaaaaaay out. So, MANY phone calls later (on the cell phone I wasn't really planning to use), things are settled down, the home stay coordinator is going to talk to the family, and hopefully this is just the initial overwhelmed thing rearing its head, and all will be well. We shall see. But, after all of that, seeing "Blancanieves y la leyenda del cazador" (Snow White and the Hunstman i think it is in english?) was a nice rest. It was pretty good even in Spanish, so even though it has Kristen Stewart in it (barf), I think I would recommend it. Then, we stopped for a quick bite to eat (I have not had much of an appetite here) and walked home. After being well into the 90's yesterday, It has dropped down to the 60's today, so it was a nice refreshing walk home tonight. Hopefully the weather cooperates tomorrow since Maite is planning to take us somewhere along the coast. Happy Saturday, everyone!
