Jen's Journeys
So today started with a couple of Charles girls reluctantly dragging themselves out of bed at 8:20 am. We both could have slept longer, but resisted the urge. We had a lovely breakfast sat the hotel ( the Irish are big fans of the word lovely), packed up and headed out in the car. (Ps - I'm getting pretty decent at this driving in Ireland stuff.) got to our B&B in Kilkenny, and fortunately ran into an employee on her way out who let us into our room and gave us keys. So, we brought our bags in, rested for just a little bit, and headed out to walk around town. Three things Steph had found here were the Kilkenny Castle, St. Canice's Cathedral, and the Rothe house. After lunch at at tapas and wine place, the first thing we stumbled on was the Rothe house. It's a house that was built between 1594-1610, and is, I believe, the only remaining example of a 17th century merchant town homes left in Ireland. Very, very cool. And the gardens (complete with 5 resident ducks) were beautiful. When we reached St Canice's Cathedral, we walked around outside for a bit, took a peek inside, and realized we didn't need to pay 5€ each to see yet another cathedral. So, we walked around the cemetery a bit, and wound up being plagued by an infestation of small black bugs. They were EVERYWHERE. And kept showing up on us for at least an hour afterwards. All I can guess is this is Kilkenny's version of the mayfly. Eeeeeewwwwww. We then walked over to Kilkenny Castle. Originally built in the 13th or 12th century (?), but was abandoned in 1935. So, after watching the informational video about the history and restoration and realizing it had been completely gutted in the 50's or 60's (including all the floors and everything)? We also rejected that entrance fee. So, back to the B&B for a little downtime and then we headed to Kyteler's Pub - originally built in the 13th century. Enjoyed some delicious "chips" and a couple of pints. All accompanied by some traditional Irish music. Two guitar-ish (it kept changing) players and a squeeze box girl. Totally awesome. Then we decided to go to another pub on the way back to our B&B that looked normal and advertised traditional music. Um, no. We found "hen and stag party" central. We made some new Irish friends that "loved our accent". It seems that Kilkenny is quite the party hub. We turned down the invite from one party to be the girls that would get them into the disco. Four pints was plenty for these girls. So, we made our way back, and here we are. Steph is freshly showered, and I'm blogging for you lovely people. (As the Irish would say.) and now to upload pictures! Until tomorrow!!

BLT Mmmm, how was that? I don't care for the Apple Cider stuff.
Jen Charles It was good! Very light, but a little sweet. One was enough.
