So obviously falling asleep on busses and constantly waking up wondering where i am is becoimg the norm being as we are always on the move but waking up in the middle of the night and rocking was definitely a new feeling! We were of course sleeping on a boat! This was our 2 night 3 day sailing trip around the Whitsunday Islands so Friday (27th July) and Saturday were spent on board the boat, trying most of the time to keep upright and warm, but also sleeping in little cabins underneath! I had joked to Hayley that the beds would be like the ones on the submarine we had visited in Sydney (see sydney pics) and I actually wasnt far wrong!
The first day of the trip we spent sailing to the Islands and drinking - which turned into myself, Hayley, Heidi - from Fraser Island, and Aiden - a boy from our dorm, wearing the Captains hat and Pinnapple galsses (Hayley looked most fetching), watching a guy called Tom perform magic tricks and then going to bed swaying even more!
The next morning came the 6am wake up call in the form of "Good morning Vietnam" Full volume on the stereo! and by 7:30 we were being transported a few at a time to one of the Islands so we could take a walk to the look out and then down to White Haven Beach before the crouds arrived! And it was amazing the sand was so fine it felt like snow under our feet (but obviously not as cold!!) 10 am we were back on the boat saing to our next location and by mid day, after lunch, we were in our stinger suits (the suits we were conned into paying $15 each for) so we didnt get stug by the deadly jelly fish, which funnily enough we didnt see!!! The snorkeling was amazong though the coral was so beautiful and the water so clear and we saw hundreds of different colour fish - including Nemo (the glow fish)!!! Then it was off to another location before getting back on the boat to watch the sunset and start on the 'goon' again!
The next mornings wake up call was slightly different, it came in the form of, well... Donald Duck, erm, coming! Lovely! And it was out to the reef again by 7:45 for another cold dip in the sea in our fetching suits folowed by the 2 hour boat ride back to Airlie Beach.
Phew what a weekend! And then it was out that evening for the boat after party which consisted of a surfing competition on a mechanical surf board... my participation was purly from the side lines but Aiden was crowned winner after hanging on with one foot!
We're off to Magnetic Island in the morning though for some relaxation at last!
