So another early morning it was on Monday and another coach ride as we traveled to Townsville to catch a ferry to Magnetic Island. At the ferry port we bumped into Guy and Chris, two guys from our last hostel, Magnums, who we had met the night before and who were also on there way to Magnetic Island and to our same hostel again. We checked in... eventually, after the hostel told us they couldn't find our booking and ended up putting us in a room with no door on the toilet! Luckily it was only me and Hays in there! Then we went for dinner and an early night, sung to sleep by the oldies choir outside!
The next morning Guy and Chris were hiring out a Moke (mini jeep) and invited us along so we could drive around the island. We went on a nature walk first for about an hour (up hill) where we were supposed to be able to see koalas... we saw one, hiding in a tree right at the top, and then it was an un-fulfilling hour back down! From there we drove to a beach, which Guy named 'moldy' because the tide had gone out revealing dirty sea weedy rocks and coral behind! After this Chris informed us of a bird feeding around the corner, which we didn't think sounded much fun at all but when we got there we found people covered in these brightly coloured birds, and I mean covered! There was a pot of wet bread in the middle that people were grabbing and holding out for them and within seconds their arms were then covered in them. We stood and watched for a while before getting attacked ourselves and then in one second all the birds all of a sudden took off in flight in the same direction circled the park and then flew back literally through us like bullets! There wasn't even time to screamscreem... but I did!
Later that night we tried to get drunk but to no avail as the hostel bar closed at 10pm and the grumpy cab driver refused to take us anywhere else as he was certain nowhere else was open! So we sat on a bench before getting bored and heading to bed.
Guy and Chris left this morning, Wednesday 1st August, to head up to the Tully river to do rafting but we still had all day here to explore so went to the Koala sanctuary and got to actually hold a koala... and a Lizard... and a Python... and a baby Crocodile!
We got back to our room this afternoon though to find the bathroom door had been fixed so, in tern, they have moved more people in. Luckily we we're leaving in the morning though and heading on up the coast the way Chris and Guy had gone and will be doing our own rafting on Friday!
