We arraived in Hiroshima on Friday (8th May), from the moment we got off the super fast train we loved the city. We made our way to our hostel and dumped our luggage and decided to head for the beach. After 4 days of torrential rain we were loving the fact that there was not a cloud in the sky! We got the free ferry (short arms long pockets, Marky, was loving it!) across to Miyajima Island which is this hidden gem just 15 minutes from Hiroshima. When we arrived the first thing we heard were these Japanese girls shouting "Bambi" we were thinking aggggh lovely until we saw the the flea ridden skanky things! The island was covered in roaming wild deer, one of which especially liked Marky`s bottom! We spent the day avoiding the deer and mooching around this wonderful island.
The following day we dedicated to walking the streets of Hiroshima where we discovered a pond in the middle of a busy high street (the japanese love doing things like this) the pond was full of terrapins of which we found a favourite and named him Dave (as you do!).
We spent most of our time at the A Bomb site and the surrounding peace parks. The A Dome is the symbol of Hiroshima as the bomb was detonated 600 metres above it and yet the structure of it still remains. It was an incredible experience apart from the Jehovah Witnesses and Christians attempting to convert us around the site!
We then decided to head towards the castle - Marky was not willing to pay the money to get in, as he claimed it was something he didn`t want to do, so I forked out the 300 or so yen for him. Once he was in he wasn't coming out as he had found the dress up samuri costume!!! He pretended to be a samurai (G, you would have been proud!) which was being watched by a disapproving guard!
All in all Hiroshima was certainly one of the top cities we have ever visited and would definitely recomed it to anyone that is willing to listen!
