We left sunny Nadi at 8.30am yesterday morning and arrived back on Nananu-i-ra around one o'clock in the afternoon due to the rules of Fiji Time! It was lovely and sunny when we arrived so we sat outside in a couple of hammocks for a while to soak up a little more sun before heading in for some much needed homemade food. It was great to have something so simple as spaghetti bolognaise after the food on Mana, and after tea we did very little again as we just lazed around for a while before going to bed.
This morning we got up bright and early and decided to go for a quick kayak around the island to do a bit more exploring. After a while the weather turned slightly for the worst and there was a bit of rain but it soon brightened up when we'd made it to the big beach on the other side of the island. Our quick kayak soon turned into a three hour expedition and as the wind picked up we thought it would be best to head for home in case any storms moved in. For most of the way we had the wind on our backs which helped make good time, but once the final corner was taken it was straight into the wind! The final leg of the journey proved more than a little strenuous and it took some time to get back to the beach and return the kayaks to the hostel.
We took a quick walk up behind the hostel to a lookout point at the top of the island that provided some really nice views but by this stage the weather was getting steadily worse and when we got back to our room and the hammocks we were all freezing. Determined not to be stuck inside we headed to the hammocks on the beach only this time we took our sleeping bags as well and wrapped up inside them!
After a quick meeting around the hammocks, we all agreed that we couldn't spend our last couple of days in Fiji in the cold, and so we decided to cut short our time on the island and move on again tomorrow morning.
