The boat that rocked!
We had a truly awful journey between Samui and Phangan. We awoke to a violent storm and pouring rain. When we arrived at the port we could see from the crazy waves that our journey wasn't going to be good. 3 hours after our scheduled departure time we boarded which was hard to do! We had to cross a floating platform and it was just a mass of people holding on to one another. Amidst this, Lauren and I got separated from Nut who ended up at the bottom whereas we grabbed 2 top deck seats! Bags were piled high in the aisles so anybody that wanted to leave had to climb over them!
The boat left and the water was so choppy, I was so scared- more than I have ever been EVER! Everytime the boat tilted to the side i would grab hold of Lauren and try to counterbalance it. I realise my 60 or so kilos couldn't right it but I couldn't help myself trying. Accompanying this were screams of other passengers each time we rocked.
Little did we know that downstairs was a whole lot worse, a girl became hysterical and was having panic attacks, then when tackling a huge wave a porthole window smashed leaking water into the boat and further panicking everybody! After this the bottom deck put on lifejackets and prayed for their lives, boys and girls alike were crying and everybody thought we wouldn't make it!
We were better off upstairs everyone managing to remain calm, we HAD to- after people putting lifejackets on downstairs, we learnt that we didn't have any!!
Everytime we tipped the windows would hit the wave and there would be a fleeting moment before the boat would right itself! The only hope we had was that the crew looked calm and we had to put all our trust into their skills and the fact that they had done the journey countless times!
Thank god we made it safely, solid ground has NEVER felt soooo good!!!!
