Koh Phi Phi
The weather has been really bad and our 5 days in Phi Phi were filled with rain and storms every day. However we were luckier than the east coast where aircraft carriers have had to transport tourists off Samui and Tao as the flooding continues to get worse. The wettest March since 1999 a Thai lady told us- what bad luck!
Weather aside Phi Phi is a really cool island, small enough to know your way around in a day but big enough to have a great night out! We started each night at a bar called Breakers making the most of their pitcher deals which on Sangria special night lead to awful hangovers! We then headed to the beach and danced in the rain drinking buckets! It was such a laugh, we met 2 lovely Canadian guys and along with Gina and Lauren had really good fun as a group! It was nice to meet genuine guys who loved partying even after finding out we all had boyfriends :).
We had to move accommodation 3 times, firstly because our room felt like a prison, without windows or power sockets! The second time my bed got infested with ants..it was disgusting- they got into my clothes bag and the owner didn't understand how horrible this was and just kept repeating "no worry" over and over! Finally we landed a lovely room on the same row of a hotel as the others!
The food on the island was great..we were recommended a tucked away Thai place called Papayas and it lived up to it's repututation. First night we ordered 6 meals for 6 people as you would and we had so much leftover!! We felt bad! The next night we split meals and 1 curry was more than enough for two and tasty and cheap as well ( as long as you didn't think too much about the amount of cats living in the kitchen)!
On one day we woke up to sunshine and literally ran to book on an island tour to see, amongst other things Maya bay where the film "the beach" was filmed! We had a lovely time swimming and snorkelling in turquoise waters until on the last leg of the trip a storm set in! Imagine..we were in a wooden longboat- crammed full with 25 people,2 couldn't swim and there were 3 lifejackets between us all- classic Thailand situation! It was so rocky getting back and frankly quite scary but we were in fact more scared for the wellbeing of our cameras! We huddled together and I thought mine was done for only wrapped in a carrier bag and my arms! Luckily they all survived the trip!
Lauren had to leave us a few days before we were leaving to carry on her trip onwards to Malaysia and Singapore- it was sad to see her go after travelling on and off with her for 5 weeks! She's a hilariously entertaining gal and a lot of fun to be around, such a shame she lives thousands of miles away from us :(. We had constant battles of who's word won- the Canadian one or the English one and you could often find us battling such things as which word is better..band aid or plaster, lilo or floatey ( which to me sounds too much like floater)!
All in all I loved Phi Phi and it would be great to go back in the sunshine!! Now to Phuket to chill out in a VILLA!!
