Around the World Forever
Hue would be a good city to visit.... if it wasn't raining. After checking the weather forecast and seeing rain for the next several days, I had no choice but to accept that I will get wet on a tour to the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). So I went ahead and hired a motorbike and guide and headed off into the countryside awaiting the coming rains....and they came! So I know I was at Khe San, a military base used by the US during the war but I'm not sure what else I saw as the fog and rain kept us on the move all day. At Khe San, there is a small museum but it has mostly been turned into coffee fields....although 'til this day, nothing will grow on the old airstrip. A friend of mine who was here four years ago told me about strolling through former battlefields and finding old shell casings.... I saw none of this, wherever it was. From here, my tour continued past ethnic minority villages to Truong Son National Cemetery. This is Vietnam's version of Arlington and has 15,000 graves of North Vietnam's war casualties. Back in Hue, I checked the weather again...5 more days of rain. I'm outta here! There must be sun somewhere ????????
