We ate at the hotel last night, sad I know, but we were very tired and frankly couldn't be bothered getting ready to go out, all things considered.
So the hotel did a special buffet and BBQ, the theme being 'Pangaea - A taste of ancient times, from when the world was one continent'! So you can imagine how disappointed I was that dinosaur steaks didn't feature, raptor-burgers weren't on offer, and there were no sabre-tooth tiger kebabs, and I find it hard to believe that chocolate fountains even existed back then, let alone accompanied by assorted fruit on skewers! The astoundingly contemporary food on offer was great, though, and we just stopped short of eating 'till we burst!
Up and out early today for a guided visit to the Hue Market, the old Imperial Palace, and the pagoda next door. All of which were fab. The guide, Huan, was really good, Sal pointed out this Huan was better than the other Huan (she reckons she was trying to be funny, but I don't believe her).
Lots of posh old Brits around here, and in our hotel too, as it's well on the tourist itinerary, and they ALL look like they've got a permanent smell under their nose. If they'd have used the bog I used on the train, they probably would have ( yeah, it stunk BEFORE I used it, too)!
The temple in the pagoda was actually a working temple with monks and everything. There was a Buddhist ceremony going on while we were there, we took off our shoes and had a look in, we felt a bit awkward being Western tourists and all, but b***** me if some insensitive idiots weren't taking photo's and video-ing it! Just imagine if some Japanese tourists visiting a church in the UK did the same thing (they probably do, but it doesn't make it right!). We travelled back to the hotel along the river, in a dragon-boat, and spent the rest of the day chilling by the pool, in the lovely sunshine, nice!
