Driving in the States is pretty easy, most of the time, but getting into LA was tricky. The freeways can be difficult to fathom, as the exits can be on the left or right, and if you're in the wrong lane, you're stuffed. It's worse than in the UK, Aussie, or Canada, too, 'cos if you end up in the wrong neighbourhood here, you could be in serious trouble! We only got lost a couple of times when we were looking for Santa Monica, and didn't stray into the 'hood, so we were ok!
We're in another 'cheap and cheerful' motel here, it's really well located, and the bloke on the reception is exceptionally helpful. He helped us sort out tickets to see Prince at The Forum. We were really excited, but a bit nervous too, as we had to drive to the show, and find parking. The Forum is in Inglewood, which apparently isn't a bad area, but it's adjacent to South Central LA and Watts, we didn't want to be driving 'round lost! We found the venue without difficulty, and got there nice and early (probably before some of the stadium staff, actually!), so we had a long wait until Prince hit the stage, but it was worth it, as he was incredible. The atmosphere all through the show was fantastic, possibly due to the venue being in the 'hood, and the tickets being reasonably priced, but it hit another level when Stevie Wonder came onstage and did a couple of songs with Prince, the place just about exploded!
We got back to the motel, about 2am, tired but buzzing, after a creepy late-night drive through LA. It's a weird, slightly scary place, but we're enjoying it so far!
