Despite what it may have sounded like from the last blog, we've thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Buenos Aires. Our final day was spent cycling 'round the city by day, and visiting a Tango show in the evening, a great way to round off our stay.
The cycling tour included the 'La Boca' area of BA, which is quite rough! We cycled past Boca Juniors stadium, and stopped in a little park to take pictures. As I took a photo, I could see Sal and our guide looking over my shoulder nervously, and out of the corner of my eye I spotted the reason. A bunch of scally lads were walking past, possibly eyeing up the rich tourists! We'd already come to the conclusion that most Argentinians look a little bit like cut-throats (not all of them, just the blokes), so imagine Argentinian scallies! Blood-curdling!
The tango show we went to was great, surprisingly! It was a dinner/show combo, in an old theatre, and it was a great experience. The audience seemed to be mostly South American tourists, they were well into it, so there was a great atmosphere, and the show itself was just fabulous. Sadly, I especially enjoyed the 'Evita' segment of the show!
We'd spent the day before looking 'round the trendy shops in Palermo Soho, where we're staying. I got a new pair of pumps, 'cos my Merrells, which have barely been off my feet for the last six months, are wearing out. Sal then spotted a pair of 'going out' shoes she absolutely 'had to have', but when we went in the shop, and she told them what size she wanted, the girl just gasped, 'jeeez, no way!' she went on to say they only stocked normal sizes for Argentinians, whose feet tend to be smaller. Sal tried on the largest size they had, but had to concede defeat (defeet!), even though she wanted those shoes baad, she knew they would have crippled her!
We stopped at a cafe for lunch, and the waiter was really friendly and jolly, when he found out we were from the UK, he started chatting about football. We thought we'd found our first friendly Buenos Airean, but it turned out he was from Costa Rica! He supported Man City, back from when Paolo Wanchope played for them!
We're in Salta now, in the north of Argentina, and we've already seen gauchos riding down the street. If I don't see a Llama wearing a hat, I'll be very disappointed!
