We finally arrived at Yacutinga Lodge, after a two hour flight, and a two hour drive through the jungle. Our driver had never been to this hotel before, and as there were no signs to it, he had to stop at least five times to ask directions. We passed a wrecked car with kids playing in it, only for it to come driving past us minutes later when we stopped at the crossroads. There was a family of ten inside, bits of the car dropped off as it went past, and the driver was wearing a leather cowboy hat. He gave our driver the correct directions, though!
It was freezing when we arrived, both in our little jungle chalet, and in the main lodge itself, and I ate tea wearing a hat, scarf, and jacket. It had warmed up in our room by bed-time, but I was then worrying about the guides warning to keep the doors and windows closed because, as it was cold, spiders might be looking for somewhere warm to sleep!
