Day 42 - 31 May - Route 66 end of the road trip. We drove out of Springfield early on Interstate 44 - branched off at Halltown after about 30mins and found Gary Gay Parita - a 1930s style gas station in the old Route 66. There were about 15 Corvettes parked up in the side of the road. We stood a stared as they roared away - mesmerised by a rare convoy off American muscle cars. We wandered round the place, old garage, workshop, tourist shop (bought a R66 sign) free coffee and a chat with the garrulous proprietor. Then it was back on the road again - which for a few miles was the real deal, original Route 66. We continued south and west on I-44 until we got to Tulsa - driving through town on R-66 again. I looked around for the big 66 signs seen on the TV program ‘Tulsa King’ with Sylvester Stallone - couldn’t find it. So we moved on to OKC and Sam’s place and Sal at 1413 NW 16th Street - home sweet away from home. 😁
