Today I bid farewell to David and Hannah and set off on the train, by myself in Europe for the first time! After about 4 hours I found myself in Oslo, Norway. A new country and a whole new language. And it was downpouring. But luckily I wasn't trying to sightsee in the rain, I was traveling further west to Bergen, Norway's second biggest city. The Oslo station was closed for maintenance so instead they had buses traveling to nearby stations where people could catch the trains. So they had all the people that would normally be throughout the whole station on one platform, trying to listen to employees yelling instructions in Norwegian on which buses to catch to make their connections. Of course I didn't understand a word of it and I was starting to think I missed my bus when one of them yelled out "Bergen!" and he led us a couple blocks away to a bus (by the time we got there all my stuff was soaked). Luckily a woman from Switzerland sat next to me and was able to translate that we had to drive an hour north to catch our train at a different station than they originally planned. We got to the station and waited an additional half hour for another bus from Oslo and then we were finally on our way to Bergen! The next 6 hours took me over snowy plateaus, through mountain tunnels and past spectacular fjords. It was so amazing and I just stared out the window the entire trip, just taking it all in. Hannah's uncle Peter was nice enough to invite me to stay with them while I was in Bergen so he met me at the station and drove me around town a bit before we went to their house (it was already past 11PM at this time). I met his wife Sissel and the three of us ate a late dinner and talked for about 2 hours before we had to call it a night. Tomorrow I get to meet their 3 kids (2 boys, ages 4 and 7, and a 1-year-old girl) and get a tour of Bergen so I can't wait!
