It's time for a new adventure! I said goodbye to my new Norwegian friends and got on the morning train bound for Berlin. I ended up sitting by a girl from Sacramento and we talked for most of the ride. Turns out she's studying business and culinary arts like my sister! On the way, the train gets onto a ferry for about an hour so I sat out on the deck and enjoyed the sunshine. When I got to Berlin, I caught a bus in the direction of my hostel. I forgot to write the exact address so I ended up walking around for an hour before I had to ask someone working in a little clothes store to look it up for me. There's no sign outside, the door is covered in graffiti and it's on the 3rd floor but I finally found it. Turns out I had walked past it about 4 times! The owner Arthur showed me around and it turns out to be a really cool place. It's run by him, his uncle, an English guy named Simon and a French girl named Roxanne. The hostel only has about 40 beds so you get to meet everyone that stays there. As soon as I put my stuff away, Roxanne took me to this place called Techeles. It's a building that squatters inhabited a couple decades ago and now houses a bunch of street art galleries. The entire building is a work of art, every inch is covered in graffiti and it was fun just walking through the many floors and looking at it all. We headed back to the hostel and then an Australian guy named Dylan joined us for some dinner. This guy is hilarious! We returned to the hostel and I played ping pong with some other Australian guys, Michael and Ned. Everyone eventually ended up drinking beers in the lounge area. Turns out there's a little store downstairs that sells great beers for 80 cents! I met this awesome guy named Patrick from Vancouver and a bunch of other people and it was a great first day in Berlin! I did wake up in a bean bag chair in the lounge at 6 am but more about that in tomorrow's blog entry!
