Today is the day where I truly set out on my own. I'm no longer staying with relatives or relatives of relatives. It's just me and my backpack and an agenda of cities to cover in the next 1 1/2 months, to places like Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Vienna and Prague among many others. I'm incredibly grateful for everyone who opened up their homes to me in the past week but I'm excited to stay in hostels, explore and meet people as well. I spent the early afternoon in Göteborg, playing with the kids and mowing the lawn and then I said goodbye and hopped on a train bound for Copenhagen! The ride was less than 4 hours and when I arrived the weather was cloudy but not raining... yet. As soon as I started walking in the direction of my youth hostel it started raining heavily and soon me and all my stuff was soaked. I tried to catch a bus which turned out worse cause I ended up getting off further away from my hostel than I was in the first place. But luckily the rain had stopped by then and I eventually found my way to the hostel. After dropping off my bags, I went out into the neighborhood in search of food and found a little restaurant selling kebab wraps and pizzas. I ordered some kind of meat wrap that wasn't very appetizing and then returned to the hostel. I met a girl from New York and we talked for awhile about traveling in Europe and then I went to bed (the top of a 3-story bunk bed that leaned off the wall as you climb up). To be honest, it wasn't a great start in Copenhagen but I'm optimistic about tomorrow!

Heather Jarrett Your attitude is in the right place Jay. It amazing that the fantasy of travel and the reality of it can leave you soaked and eating s***ty meat! Have fun and keep your mind open and your choices wise.. love you.
