So NYE! Had a great time, the hostel laid on a big paty/feast for us with drink and music! I had a really good time. We sat down to eat at about 11.30, had a starter of typical foods (sandwich, empanadas, which are basiclaly mini cornish pasties), then steak and salad for mains (typically argentine!!!), and ice cream for dessert, with sweet bread, choclates, nougaut on the side for nibbling. Drinks were typically argentine, Quilmes (beer) and Fernet (like some vodka thing, which is VERY argentine, although its actually italian) taken with coke (see picture).
At midnight we had a toast with cider (which is a traditional festive drink) and then went out into the street. Ahhh jeeeesus, there were fireworks everywhere in the street. Seriously, it was the complete opposite of the British H&S...all the neighbours were out in the street lighting fireworks in the middle of the road and standing like 5 metre back form it when it was being lit. It was insane, I was s***ting it! But then this is Argie tradition, and it was great to watch.
Then we all went back inside and carried on with the party, and the drinking including music, dancing, games, shots...you name it, we did it! Eventually ended it at 5am (which from my experiences is VERY early for Argentines, i thinks its as we´re back packers here we´re just constantly tired!) I´ve added photos of it ot this site.
Spent NYE with a hangover, tired and shattered like any other. And did literally nothing (which im very ashamed of!!) but o well.
Today, I went an a tour out into the mountains and desserts again. Through the jungles, into the rocky, sandy cactus desserts and finishes up at same amazing Incan ruins built up a mountain side. The incans had built it as a fort to protect them from the Spanish...got some great pics!
Now off to enjoy another party night! Brasilian themed night at the hostel, with cocktails, samba dancing and a bucking bronco bull... :)
