Today we started our overland tour. After a brief meeting of our group last night we reconvened after brekkie today and packed the bright orange truck! Our sightseeing began with a tour of a local township, Langa. This was a black community, with different levels of housing. As a white person you definitely feel out of place here and
appreciate the standards that we are accustomed to back home. While here we met some of the beautiful local kids and tried some traditional beer. The beer was drank, shared from what is best described as a paint tin. Surprisingly it tasted ok, just a bit gritty. The kids were just as surprising. They literally run out to greet you, posing for photos holding your hand. Some even jump up for hug. From there we stopped for lunch just out of Cape Town before spending the rest of the afternoon on the road. Finally we arrived out our camp, a winery in Clanwillian. This is a green oasis, in an
endless valley of vines surrounded by rocky outcrops. After our first successful tent set up, we walked up to the owners bar and enjoyed an hour tasting some of Sparky's finest wines while watching the sun set. We then had some dinner, beef stew never tasted so good, and spent some time getting to know the others guys in our group. With only 6 others we are already feeling relaxed. Early to bed for an early start in the morning, with a long day driving ahead.
