Up early again!!! Heading for the coast. First stop Solitaire, a small town renowned for its Apple Pie. They always say never trust a skinny cook, so check out the photo of the baker and you can figure out how good the Apple Pies were. After here we stopped at the Tropic of Capricorn for a quick photo and then again at Kuiseb Canyon. This Canyon sits on the same fault line that runs all the way to Australia. With 100kms still to travel to get to Swakopmund our truck decided it had had enough. The wear and tear on the centre bearing was too much and after a loud bang, and our guides trying some bush mechanics, we were back on the road but at a much slower pace. This was ok as it gave us more of an opportunity to look for wildlife and we weren't disappointed. Saw lots of Springbok and Oryx before being treated to a herd of mountain Zebra running along side the truck and then out in front of us. So we continued along slowly, but our guides had organized another truck to meet with us and take us a bit faster. We switched trucks and stopped for lunch at Walvis Bay, and experienced Namibian KFC (not to be repeated, well actually it did repeat!) before finally arriving in Swakopmund. Our first stop was the adventure centre, where we had the choice of extreme activities to fill the day tomorrow. Wanting to continue our holiday without broken limbs we decided that skydiving was out of the question, but opted for sand dune quad biking. We locked in the time for tomorrow and then headed to our accommodation, a break from camping, which was well received! Swakopmund is where the desert meet the ocean. The desert stretches 100km inland and 2000km along the Namibian coast line. Needless to say the contrast is amazing. So for the rest of the night we relaxed and then all headed out to the local Italian restaurant for dinner. After seeing heaps of Springbok and Oryx during the day we figured it was only right to see what they tasted like. So Jarrod ordered the game grill. A taster of Springbok, Oryx, and Zebra. We were surprised that they all tasted similar to beef. Dinner was a great chance to get to know our new friends even more and from here we headed to the night club for another truly local experience. We were even talked in to having a Springbok Shooter (Not as bad as it sounds!) a peppermint tasting shot which requires a little dance to go along with it. Finally to bed and a good night sleep in a proper bed, bliss!
