It's hard to sum up our Asia experience in one post as it was so diverse, from trekking in Nepal and visiting monasteries in Bhutan to kayaking in Vietnam and climbing waterfalls in Laos we feel like we've experienced a million different places, cultures and foods.
We'll miss the Thai foods like Tom Yum soup, Pad Thai and fresh coconuts but are very much looking forward to European classics like pizzas, pastas, pastries and desserts.
We're looking forward to not seeing bottled water and toilet paper as valuable commodities but won't enjoy paying $20 for dorm rooms when we've been paying a maximum of$5 each for private rooms with ensuites.
We can't wait for easy transportation that leaves on time from central locations that will be easy to book and look up online but will miss being able to arrive in cities and find cheap accommodation on every street corner.
We're looking forward to a change in culture, while Asia has been a magnificent experience and very rewarding, we're ready for the European way of life. From sitting in cafes watching the world go by and cooking in hostel kitchens to history that has a more personal relevance.
We definitely will not miss people spitting and coughing everywhere and the lack of respect for personal space and peace and quiet. We also won't miss being constantly hassled by people trying to sell us things, especially aggressive, pushy tuk-tuk drivers although we understand Europe will have it's own brand of annoying touts.
Highlights for us have been the natural beauty of the Himalayan regions of Nepal and Bhutan, exploring the Temples of Angkor on bicycles in Cambodia, the gorgeous Lan Ha bay in Vietnam, the laid back Luang Prabang in Laos and the friendly welcoming nature of a lot of the Asian people (at least the ones not trying to sell anything or exploit tourists in one way or another). Thinking back to our trip, there's not a lot we would change besides decreasing the amount of time we spent in China and increasing our time in India.
