We visited Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks as the final parks on our road trip. We parted ways with our host, Tom, in the morning and took our customary hike to a lookout spot once we reached Kings Canyon. We though the most spectacular parts of this park are drive through areas, and therefore the hike didn't give us anything extra or better scenery wise than we gained from the car. We still enjoyed ourselves, the novelty of hiking as a threesome probably helped.
We drove through in the afternoon, onwards to Sequoia Park, home to the world's largest tree, General Sherman, which had been something Jansen was keen to see since the start of the trip. There are wider trees and taller trees in the world, but none with greater total volume and hence General Sherman is "largest". After looking at a few of the other big trees - it turned out we actually ran out of time and sprinted down to General Sherman, shewed some tourists away from the front of it so we could take a photo and sprinted off again - mentally ticking that one off of the bucket list.
We ended up arriving at our next host's house later than we should have, arriving in the dark, Hank, our host, waved us into his driveway like we were a Boeing 747 coming into the hangar. With Hank's neighbour around as well we hit it off instantly and had a fun night swapping stories over some food and beer.
