A violent storm overnight has many checking tents, annexes and vans in the caravan park. We survived OK and headed to the surf in our kayaks, paddling along the Corindi Creek estuary. It was rough body surfing in the creek entrance but it was good fun. We saw many stinrays as we paddled over the sand flats.

Leaving Ballina we tackle the roadworks on the Pacific Highway again as we head south. A short stop in Grafton and then we arrive at Red Rock where the beaches are very pretty and quiet. No schoolies crowds here.

Another trip to Byron Bay where we enjoy breakfast at a local cafe before a refreshing swim and heading to the eastern most point on the Australian mainland, Cape Byron. It was quite windy and I lost my hat from one of the lookouts.

Today we visited Lennox Head where we watched the hand gliders launch and land at the lookout just south of town [pat morton lookout]. It was a windy day but many were turning up for tandem joy flights from the lookout.

We head to Byron Bay to watch the Gorman kids participate in a Nippers surf life saving carnival. They compete for the Ballina SLSC and did well between showers of rain and stormy skies. We watch the last event in the rain having enjoyed some time in the surf ourselves. Plenty of schoolies in town as we browse the shops in the afternoon and then return to Skennars Head for a tropical downpour to end the day with a great lightning show.
