Yesterday, August 25, was beautiful, crystal clear blue sky but yet still very warm and sunny! One would never know a ferocious thunderstorm happened during the night before. The thunder was deafening and sounded as though it was right outside our window. But it was different from any thunder I've ever heard before. It was sharp, it was shrill and sounded like someone beating on a tin building. It was Czech thunder.
We concentrated on three major points, Staromestske Namesti (Old Town Square), Narodni Museum (The National Museum) and the Botanical Gardens (situated to the north and east of Old Town and City Centre). We walked to Old Town Square and spent a couple of hours there milling around the Square, exploring, munching and waiting for the Astromonical Clock to strike. The Square is in a constant state of fair-like atmosphere. Really fun and nice!
Then we finally opted to use the Metro instead of walking so much. We visited the National Museum area (the actual museum is closed now for rennovation). We rested our feet sitting at the foot of the Saint Wenceslas Statue in front of the museum, and had a good old Coke Lite, as they are called here, sans ice. There are ice cream shops on every corner, but never a cube of ice.
Later we took the Metro across town to the Troja Chateau (oh, please see the pictues) and the Botanical Gardens. It was late so we only saw a few gardens which were magnificent. . . the coniferous garden with petrified wood from the area over 250 million years old; the Mediterranian garden with sunflowers and herbs, and the Japanese garden with its simple intracacy. Instead of touring more gardens, we found a park bench overlooking an expanse of the Japanese garden and shared a bit of wine as the sun was going down. Life is good.
Today as I write this, will be our last in Prague. We will travel tomorrow morning on a 6 am flight to Naples. We still have a couple of must-do's for today, then we will re-pack and hopefully have a nice dinner before saying good-bye. I need to add here that the Czech people are extremely friendly. They have gone out of their way to be nice to us. We have talked with many and have also met and enjoyed many friendly fellow tourists. No disappointments so far!!
