Hey everyone! Dad, didn't you hear that song 'elvis isn't dead, because I heard him on the radio'? It's true! I'm ignorig the education comments because you know I went to better schools:) Igot to Memphis pretty late, but my hostel is right next door to the greyhound. I got into the dorm about 10pm and my 3 room mates not long after. Itsa pretty cool dorm - an English couple and a Swedish guy - and we sat up chatting until really late, which wasn't great for the Swedish guy who left at 5am for his flight. I went to try Sum Studio the next day, which was awesome! The history behind it all is pretty impressive, and it's such a small studio to have produced some pretty big legends. Sam Philips had to sell Elvis' contract for $35,000 because he was in such debt. Although Elvis went on to earn millions, Sam Philips could pay off his debts and this let him go onto produce Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis. I stood where the million dollar quartet had that famous picture taken, pretty cook! And I got my picture taken with Elvis' microphone. The tour guy picked someone from the group to strum Johnny Cash's guitar, I don't get picked to do the cool things! We then got taken onto Graceland. The house is shockingly tacky, proof that he decorated in the 70's. We were only allowed to visit downstairs as upstairs was always his private quarters and will remain that way. He has a tv room in the basement with the coolest bar (it looked more 60's, so I like that). I seemed to find myself an adopted grandad while walking around the house. He saw Elvis live when he was in the 8th grade an has been the biggest fan ever since, but has never Been to Graceland. The poor guy was by himself and I think he wanted someone to talk to. He knew everything about Elvis, and so I got an extra tour, he also like to reminisce about life in the 50's, but it was interesting. We went to see Elvis' car collection; the coolest cars i've ever seen. I've picked out the cat I want... So Dad if you could buy me the purple Cadillac from the Presleys please:) he also had two planes (one named after his daughter) and they are incredible! It's like a house!
His grave is alongside his parents and grannie in the back garden, which I found creepy! But it's elvis!
I went to an Irish bar that night with the couple from my hostel in Beale street fir dinner and drinks. We bumped into some
Aussie guys who I met in Nashville, and the English couple had also met them in Nashville before me, crazy! Iguess everyone us following similar routes.
I was told I had to go to the Peabody hotel to watch the famous duck walk, weird suggestion I know! They have a red carpet from the elevator door tote water fountain. They have the first ever duck master and he goes to the roof everyday to get the
ducks and brings them down in the elevator, and the ducks run down the carpet to the fountain. He then takes them back to the roof at 5pm.
Im going on a city tour this afternoon, so I'll even if I didn't see martin Luther kings birthplace thanks to Sean, I can see the assassination site. Then another but final long bus journey to DC. After this they are really short, yay!
I'll look forward to those tax returns Dad, but feel free to do them for me:)
Love xXx
