Hey everyone!
So I made it to Colorado, which means I have officially crossed 6 state Borders, phew! Like every greyhound bus journey before, I must report on the interesting personalities I meet. I was asked by 2 separate Americans whether we speak English in England! If the English didn't come up with English then I wonder who did? He thought we spoke French or Spanish or something like that. I told him we speak like they do in the Shakespeare plays. Let's hope he's heard of Shakespeare!
I got to Denver, the mile high city, and I'm impressed. Although my hostel is 108 years old, and I think the owner and some of the guests were there for the grand opening. But at least I get the whole dorm to myself:)
Yesterday, I had a wander around and then went to see the unsinkable molly browns house. It was a quite cool old victorian style house, and our theatrical your guide liked to tell her stories, which were interesting. Molly brown was on one of the first life boats to leave the titanic. She was big on women's rights etc and had a good education in languages and so did a lot of translatig for survivors.
I manger to find an Irish pub, no surprise, they are everywhere. Inside they have a room dedicated to the Scottish (the Robert Burns room), a room for the Welsh (Dylan Thomas room), yet no room for the English. I suggested a Thomas hardy room, but I don't think it went down well!
I have a day less in denver than I originally thought. I thought I was leaving tomorrow night, but the bus is tomorrow morning. So all the things I had planned has to be crammed in today. That meant I missed the Zoo. I attempted to go the US mint to see how they make the money, but the tickets had all been sold. The guy said if I didn't have my handbag, which aren't allowed inside, and queues up anyway, they may let me in. But I obviously had no where near by go leave my handbag. Instead I rented a bike from their B cycle scheme. You can rent a bike from a number of stations throughout the city by swiping your card, you cab park up again in another station and can take it out again within the 24 hours. I had a cycle on the bike paths around the city and then headed to the state Capitol for a free tour. The last bike i went on though was in belize, where to brake we had to pedal backwards. Completey forgetting this dient apply to every bike, i may have craahed into a bench, which only half of downtown denver saw, so its ok! It's cool inside, they take you into the senate room and the room where they vote on state legislature. You can climb the dome, which gives amazing views of the city.
I went to this local independent bookstore that everyone was telling me to go to. It's really sweet with it's own coffee shop, so I got some lunch there and read for a bit.
I'm now in a bar called Wynkoop brewing co, because everyone blogs in a bar haha! They brew all of their beers on site, so I went for an English style ale called rail yard, tis quite good! And to keep the English theme going, a shepherds pie!
So that's all folks from denver, see you in Utah!
Lots of love xXx
