Travelled up the River Li today on a tourist boat. We thought that there would be a few boats but China does things on a different scale. The armada was huge and stretched nose to tail as far as you could see - you can see the next boat behind ours in the photo (he did manage to overtake in the end). Amazing scenery on the journey despite the poor visibility - think the murky conditions may be due to China's pollution problems. Staying right in the middle of Yan...

Arrived in Guilin, China this evening, the 13th country in the last 2 months. The area around Guilin is famous for its limestone karst scenery (GCSE Geography). First impressions are that Guilin has a different look and feel to HK - still quite modern and very lively at night, but no skyscrapers and the traffic is a bit chaotic. Surprised at how cloudy / misty it is here. Not sure if it's due to the weather conditions or pollution? Caught a taxi from the air...

Typing this 100 floors above Hong Kong. At 490m the International Commerce Centre / Sky100 is the 4th tallest commercial building in the world - although tiny compared with the 828m tall Burj Khalifa in Dubai! Only took 60 secs to get from ground level in the high speed lift. Amazing experience - even if a bit smoggy! Got to head back to hotel in a mo and head off to China.

Headed over to one of the other HK island today (Wed 17) - Lantau Island near the airport. Bit smoggy for our trip to the Big Buddha and Po Lin monastery on the 6km cable car trip. We also headed to the coast where we visited a fishing village built on stilts (Tai O - see photo). By the time we turned back the mist / smog had lifted and we got a really good view over the airport and the countryside. Heading off to China tomorrow so looking forward to another ...
