Geoff and Amy Pickard arrive from Boston, then Evelyn and Kate Boscowan from England. We head off immediately for the Island of Kea its a four hour trip. The sea is absolutely flat and everybody is enjoying the sun. Evelyn who is from a very aristocratic English family sews his tapestry work on the front deck.
We arrive about 4 pm where everyone enjoys their first swim in this deep blue water. The island is very rugged and dry but we are anchored in a very attractive Harbour at the town of 'Korissia'. We have a delightful fish dinner on the back deck watching the sunset.
Tuesday, we are up earlier than the others so we head to town in the dinghy and a long walk back to the boat. Korissia is a neat small town with the usual restaurants and bars on the waterfront. There is an archeological museum but it is closed due to lack of a guard which the village hopes to get by the end of July.
We all return to the town to rent two cars so we can see as much of the island that we can, then visit the capital 'Ioulida'. The cars are old and only have a quarter tank of petrol. However, we think we. Can do the tour without filling them. It is a small island but extremely hilly. We head towards a small town called 'Pisses', but realize we are running low now on petrol. We stop at an unmanned petrol station where we insert 20 euros cash into the machine. The six of us have no idea how to follow the Greek instructions, we loose our money and get no petrol. We continue on to lunch at Ioulida. This town is at the top of a mountain 600 meters above sea level, with fantastic views down to the sea. We wander through narrow winding pathways and find a restaurant run by John and his family. We have a fantastic Greek lunch.
Back at the boat we swim and sun bake. Tomorrow we are off on a long journey to another island in the northern Aegean group 'Skyros'.
