We find on the third attempt a very good anchorage in 'Livardi Beach'. The other anchorages had been too windy for comfort.
From the bay we view the main hilltop town that cascades down into the fishing port of Skala. On top of the hill is a fortress and Greek church, with it's white walls and blue domed roof. This is the first glimpse of what we thought the Greek Islands would look like. It is a sleepy place beyond the tourist radar, 95% of the visitors are Greek.
After lunch we walk from the beach to the top of the hill with it's ancient fort.
We pass old windmills that are becoming a common site in the islands. The houses are small and white with a great variety of colored windows and doors. The castle is fascinating build to protect the city from pirates, the houses surrounding it are built into the walls and form part of the fortification.
The views are stunning. We then descend hundreds of steps to the fishing village, then back up the steps and over to our beach.
Brad, Ian and MRB show their surfing skills behind the tender on the knee board, great fun.
After our usual coits competition, JB leads the group in a singing exhibition.
Jack is surprised at JB'S knowledge of song lyrics. JB, Therese and Amanda do an hilarious rendition of the 'Supremes' and Jack leads the sing of the 'Rolling Stones'. Some very funny videos are taken by MB. What a fun night.
