We arrive in Iguassu early morning, the hotel is beautiful and the staff are very friendly,we are too early to book into our rooms but they store our gear and show us into the Spa area to shower and change before breakfast then we are off to the famous falls.
We all decide to take the helicopter ride over the Brazilian side, it is too amazing for words, I really cant describe it, you cant imagine so much water in one place. There are 275 falls in all ,spread over 2 miles and some are over 80m high, this makes them wider than the Victoria Falls and higher than Niagara.
After we went into the falls area itself, we walked for hours and came across the different areas of water, different sounds and animals. That afternnon we went across the border into Paraguay,i t was an experience.
Next day we crossed the border again into Argentina, this time we went into the falls in a boat, a high speed jet that took you right in, we were soaked but had taken our ponchos from the Inca Trail with us so that saved us a little, the boat owners gave us a rubber duffle bag to put our gear in and told us when to put our cameras away,it was brilliant.
We then walked for the rest of the day, Alison,Shirley and I walked right out into the Devils Throat, the weather was changing by then and it eventually turned into an amazing thunder and lightning storm, the water levels rose quite dramatically.Had another amazing coffee there and a very nice lunch. The film "The Mission" was made here and the site of the Jesuit missions can still be visited.
Back at the hotel, the hot shower was wonderful, the room was beautiful and I slept like a log, hopefully it will be the first of many good sleeps.
We are due to take several buses up to Rio then down to Ille Grande, travel time a day and two nights but as a group we decide to fly to Rio then hire a minibus, it's costing us about £70 to do this but we get an extra night on the beautiful island of Illhe Grande and an extra night in Rio, which the other girls appreciate as they have not planned any extra time for Rio into their timetable.
