1 scary bus journey here and a ferry ride in torrential rain, we were on Tioman. It was pitch black when we arrived, and more trouble was to come when they told us everywhere was fully booked due to a public holiday that weekend. Thankfully, we managed to stay somewhere for that night, and then walked to the opposite end of the island the following morning, and found a little beach chalet on the sea front. It wasn't until the morning that realized how beautiful it was here. With the sea to the front of us and jungle behind us, we couldn't ask for much more- especially at 5 pound a night.
In the evening, the monkeys come down from the jungle to steel any food they can get their hands on, and they aren't afraid of confrontation. Neither are the 2m lizards come to think of it. They like to stroll down to the beach and take a swim in the water with you.
Mainly, our day consists of waking up at midday, heading next door for a slice of banana cake (which now they just hand to us as soon as they see us coming), heading down to the sunset beach bar, and spending the day there sunbathing, until 5pm when happy hour starts. 3 beers for 1.50. Our evening is actually also centered around this bar. We tend to find our bums have gone to sleep come closing time as we haven't moved for the last 6 hours.
We have met some nice people, who tend to drink down here also. Since we were having trouble leaving the island due to public holidays still, we've decided to stay here. We have been getting our exercise though. We went cycling twice - to get a bottle of vodka from the duty free. And or course, as there is a coral reef 20mtrs from the shore, lots of snorkeling. So really, we don't move that far.
