On the way back to Bali, we caught an even slower ferry because it was less money - but really not worth the hassle. We took a boat over to lombok, a bus to the port, a public ferry to Bali (which was full of cockroaches, 'looky looky' men, and had the odd tendency to dock in the middle of the sea for an hour or so). From there we took another bus to Ubud, and a taxi to a guest house. In all, a 13 hour round trip.
Again, guest house was ok. A few ants and the water smelt like cabbage so were better off not to take a shower. But the actually town of Ubud was lovely. Very Balinese, gorgeous scenery with rolling mountains and rice paddies. Unique little shops and hundreds of cheap spas, hence why we went for a full body massage and bath scrub one afternoon ($6).
Had a day and half here, took another bus back to Kuta, which was really interesting. Rach got to see beautiful countryside and hidden streams as we traveled through the mountains. Jamie spent the whole time talking to some Aussie weirdo.
Arriving back, we searched high and low for somewhere to stay again, slightly panicing because with 10 mins to go before Lois was due to arrive, we had no room. Thankfully, Jay found somewhere tucked down a back street behind a building sight. Was brand new and had cute little puppies to play with, so nothing to complain about.
That evening it was a quick dinner and bed by 9 as lo hadn't sleep for two days. Then off to Gili's - by fast boat this time for lois' sake. We were in histerics there as it was so bumpy, and we;de met a couple of Mikes' along the way.
