The views around the East Cape are spectacular and it is really remote. The majority of people that we saw were of Maori descent and the villages were merely a few houses maybe a school and even rarer was the sighting of a shop. We had filled the car with food and Monique had enough diesel that this was not a problem, we could cruise around enjoying the tranquillity and beauty. We stopped at some tiny towns along the way and had a few minor issues. As I got out to take a picture of one of the many glorious viewing points I must have knocked one of my flip flops out of the Monique. It was a good hour later before we stopped again and that was when a realised I only had one shoe! The other problem was we had read about a great campsite in a good location but when we drove up to the address there was a house but no campsite. The book is a little out of date and the phone number provided didn't work, it soon became clear we were not going to have the opportunity and drove on. We had some luck and found a nice little campsite (that didn't sell flip flops!) and set up shop for the night.
