M&D in the Catlins Coast and Invercargill
It was a long drive from Dunedin to Invercargill and again we stopped off at a few places along the gorgeous Catlins coast. The weather had picked up which was good as the wind was so strong along the southern coast we were nearly blown away. We visited some lovely beaches and took a few short scenic walks into the wilderness along the beautiful, rugged coastline. Our favourite spot had a huge rocky plateau with waves crashing over the side at a great height. I thought I had discovered a new species and then raced back to the car to get a bit of warmth from the wind.
Invercargill is quite a boring town for tourists but we found a good place to eat and immersed ourselves in all that was Burt Monro, the fastest Indian. There was a good museum about his life, the film and other interesting NZ information. We spent a morning in the lovely park walking around the different themed areas including a wildlife park with Kune Kune pigs! In the afternoon we drove to the beach where Munro had practiced riding. It was a long stretch of very flat beach, enjoyed with throwing games and Mr Whippy ice cream.
