Waterskiing gansta style
The boys kept saying last night, we'll get on the lake for 8:00am. I knew this wasn't going to happen and when we got up at 8:15 we were already behind schedule. It worked out for the better in the end as by the afternoon the water had warmed up nicely and the lake stayed calm the whole day. We took a ride to a part of the lake with a fantastic view of Mount Cook, it was a beautiful day and a wonderful location with perfect conditions for water skiing. Becky and Catherine had wakeboarded/water skied before and you could tell, they were right pros I was so impressed. I knew James could do it already and he was up after 6 years of not being on the water and looked sooo good. Chekko and I had our work cut out to even stand up let along look as good as those three. We had been told that it was easier to get up on a wakeboard so Chekko went first and stood up straight away, it was amazing. She didn't stay there for very long but on her second go she was up again and stood, a little bit shaky, but went for ages. Everyone had made it look so easy and when I had a go I could not stand for the life of me. After a few attempts I was getting tired so we found a little beach at the side of the lake and had lunch. We all got hot eating our lunch (minus ketchup and butter) so went for a dip in the lake and threw the ball around. Kiwi showed us all how it is done on both the wakeboard and monoskiied, just a casual flip and jump thrown in so fast I could barely get a picture. In the afternoon everyone should us some more of their great skills and I had a go at water skiing. Feeling more confident I managed to stand up on the third go for a short time, I don't advise celebrating whilst water skiing! We had forgotten to pack the 'biscuit' and were all getting tired, despite only actually being in the water for around 15 minutes each, it uses muscles I didn't even think existed! We decided on a calmer, more relaxing activity of fishing. Becky got a bit excited every few minutes but it was only ever pieces of weed! After a disappointing fishing session without even getting a bite we went back, had a delicious team effort BBQ. We had a few drinks and played the bowl game (colander game if you're Catherine!) we split the teams with the boys and me vs the girls. It was a close game and all rode on the last round and we pipped the girls at the post. We played fuzzy duck, mainly to see if Kiwi had improved. Fortunately for him Becky was a lot worse and she had trouble remembering the words, it was very amusing for us! We did have some deep conversations about growing old and then went to bed.
The next day the plan was to get up early, the boys suggested 7:30am, once again, what a surprise we didn't get up until about 9:00am. We hit the lake and Kiwi was being very negative about fishing and Becky surprised us all and caught Trevor the trout! She was delighted with her catch and after a few more minutes we decided to make a move and get back on the water. I was aching a lot from yesterday but managed to stand up for ages, it was brilliant, yet another cheap sport that I now love. The others showed some more of their great skills, Becky even monoskiied for the first time, we all got very excited! Today we remembered the iPod that was charged (Catherine's yesterday was disastrous!) we felt like right gangsters, on a speed boat in bikinis with music blaring out.
We got the tube out and the mental ones had a go on the tube, Chekko is possibly the strongest person ever and held on for ages! We had another great BBQ and Kiwi made Trevor the trout into a delicious entrée that was eaten very quickly. We played another round of the bowl game and the girls really let themselves down by losing massively. Becky got confused with Lance Armstrong and Neil Armstrong and between Zoe Slater (from Eastenders) and the famous surfer Kelly Slater, I was crying from laughter! We had a short education session on History and general knowledge and made another short lived plan to get up early and hit the lake again.
Surprisingly enough we didn't get up until 9:30 and everyone was pretty achy we drove to the dam and took some pictures in one of the segments. We played a game of Kubb and Kiwi, Becky and I lost miserably. The other three were on fire I don't think we even hit one of their blocks down. We said bye until we see them in two weeks when the girls have had some history lessons!
