5am was our earlymorning start. Catching the bus from the Hotel to Terminal 5 of Heathrow Airport. We went through customs and settled for a really nice breakfast at the Giraffe cafe. We had a lotoftime before our flight so we did a bit of window shopping and I fell in love with Harrods! I just wanted to buy it all! So many clothes, make-up, perfumes and even Paddington Bear!
Our flight was again delayed, obviously not the full 16 hours. This time and hour, but still thats an hour off our day time in Amsterdam thankyou! The flight time wasextremely quick. I don't even know why they served us food and tea. We werelanding in 10 minutes by the time I got my beverage.
Weather... cold, windy and rainy. But i waswell and truely prepared for this! I had to take some layers off! My backpack was extremely heavy and wasn'tsitting on me well. I got the train tickets to Centraal Station in Amsterdam. We got there easily, but realised I had paid too much for the tickets because I bouht express but hopped on the normal inner city train!
As I walked through Amsterdam Centraal,so many memories came back to meof when I was first here 10 years ago. Totally different perspective on the place now! We headed to our hotel and without looking at the map, headed in the wrong direction, but realised after a while thank goodness. our hostel was right in the middle of the red light district! Such a different culture and experience to what I am used to. There are 'shops' everywhere, catering for all types of people! There is distinctive smell throuh these small streets and at the same time, cute, disgusting, funny and scary!
The hostel room wasn't artistic as what we thouht but still a great place with a bar and night club. We ventured out into Amsterdam after unpacking. Had a quick bite to eat (hot chips) took a photo for Kira of KFC and decided to have a look through Madame Tassauds. AMAZING... SCARY... hilarious... Brilliant. Such a great museum and the wax figures just looked so real. Cant wait to post up the photos! Wasn't expecting the ghost tour part and I have never been so petrified of something!
We walked out at 430pm to find that it was now dark. Not used to how there is hardly any light around here yet. We bought shoes for Shaz as hers had broke and found some in an amazing boot store. I jsut wanted them ALL.
I was pretty exhausted so I had a four hour nap before dinner and drinks down in the bar. HostelWorld were hosting their 1st year anniversary so there were a few free drinks around. Headed to bed early at 11pm to get ready for our next adventures!
