Today we left the apartment at 8:30 and got on the bus with Hamed, the Vice Principal, and 21 other staff members from AIS (our school). Our first stop was the Seeb Fish Market. We could smell it before the door opened on the bus. The smell in the parking lot was unbearable to Layla so she headed back onto the bus and waited for us there. Once in the market, the smell was tolerable enough to have a look around and watch all of the locals dickering over prices of their daily catch. After the fish market it was off to Mattrah to see the Sultan's Yacht, Palace, and Government offices. The Palace is off-limits to tourists but you can go up to the gate and take photos of the grounds. Back on the bus and off to the Mattrah Souq; a traditional Omani Souq with gold, frankincense, and many other items old and new. The winding souq was definitely on our 'go-back-to' list as there was way too much to see in the time we had there. We were getting hungry at this point so Hamed took us to the Turkish House for an amazingly filling Turkish Fish dinner. After that it was back home to relax and head to the mall to get some wifi time in. We took a walk after dinner to the park near our building and were absolutely astounded at its size and beauty. It was a great day in Oman and a refreshing weekend before a very hectic and stressful work-week.
