November 18 is Oman's National Day which meant the school held it on the 17th of November (no school on Fridays). National Day is one of the biggest celebrations of the year where people here dress in traditional dress, perform Omani dances, paint everything green, red and white and gather together for massive celebrations. The school put on a huge show which included a lot of Leanne's students' artwork and I had my band play the national anthem (a daunting task for kids that have only been playing their instrument for 2.5 months!). I also had my grade 4 music kids perform an original song entitled "Oman is Our Land". Layla was also chosen as the english-speaking emcee for the event and did an amazing job narrating the 2.5 hour show with her friend Baraa. Overall, it was a great celebration and amazing to see the kids all dressed up and enjoying their nation's birthday!
