We have so much to catch up on together that today we decide to sit in, show Jamie some pics and rest before Susie & Anna get here - we want to do as much together as we can as a group.
Matt is exhausted, so it is a sleep day for him, Jamie & Jacq decide to be adventurous and check out the lake opposite. Pic above of our view from the apartment - great isn't it!
Off we set on our adventure, clueless about what is to come. We come to a big hill, there is a trail to follow and some signs dotted around but they are of course all in Icelandic so we crack on enjoying the sights and bumping into some friendly locals. We get to a point where the path seems to just disappear.... we're currently over half way so rather than go back we decide to walk along the less walked terrain and do a full loop of the hill. After about 5 mins we realise this is less trodden for a reason, but opt to persevere through the what has now become, marshy, wet land.
We keep going... this is where we are daft...
It gets gradually worse, we are now also encountering stingy plants and both mucked up to our ankles, then, a massive and I mean massive flock of angry birds start going absolutely crazy at us ....
They are flapping over us and screeching incessantly, we are scared... we have somehow pissed these birds off and we can't go back, the shoreline is in sight - we are sweating, fretting and stressing - if we were on camera it would be the most hilarious thing to watch but in that moment, we are petrified! These birds are threatening, they seriously have some kind of problem with us, and it looks like they are preparing to nose dive us and attack - some swoop down and the screeching is insane. We keep going, vow not to look up and make it to the shore.
We survived! We have been here for at least 2 hours, Matt is fast asleep in the warm and us two idiots are roaming around a hill frozen and rotten. We have to laugh, it might be nervous laughter but we go with it... we find an old rusty boat that was either left or shipwrecked and act out survivor scenes and then get ourselves home.
On the way we spot another sign, picture depict idiots walking off the path and a big red cross and some birds - where was this earlier??!!!! We are worried we were traipsing through the birds nesting ground now... oh dear god.
We get in and Matt is still comatosed on the sofa, he wakes - it has now been over 2 hours and we regale our tale, just can't do it justice and Matt laughs, oblivious of how long we were and that we could have been bird food....
