The train to Anjuna was a 12 hours, and the first long distance journey on India. due to ticket availability we couldn't travel over night which would e ideal since you save on accommodation costs. All the same it was a smooth ride in the 3AC class. Hannah and I shared a bunk next to the window and passed the first 3 hours playing on the iPhone, reading and chatting, then, without notice Hannah fell asleep for the duration..
The first night we arrived we heard about a large Market that takes place on that night only, so we showered an quickly caught a rickshaw. I have never heard so many Londoners in one place outside of the UK in my life! Was more of a party than a Market, but all the same was fun despite the lack of local stands.
Evershine guesthouse was recommended by someone I met in Mumbai, however it turned out quite a dump. Among many faults, the fan in our room stopped at various times during the night, meaning lots of oven like moments.
Regardless we had a good itinerary of things to do. We hired a scooter for £2, and spent the day exploring angina, castles, beaches, small towns and villages, rivers and restaurants.
On Hannah's birthday we ha a real adventure by catching some local busses to a spice plantation. Buffet Indian lunch followed by a guides tour through a section of the plantation of which I learned a lot. However the days finale was a elephant bath for us both. This involved jumping on the back of an elephant in our swim wear, who then lay in the water and squirted us repeatedly over his shoulder using his trunk.
That evening I treated Hannah to a meal WITH a dessert which is a rarity.
We both enjoyed Anjuna despite the brown sea and the London population.
