After spending a few days at Adelaide River checking out some of the major attractions and making some new friends, we decided to continue our journey towards Western Australia, with the next stop being Katherine, via an overnight stop at Edith Falls.
Katherine is a surprisingly large town (assume mainly due to the tourist industry), and was actually larger prior to a few large floods which wiped out the town a few times and reduced it's population.
Will let Cooper explain the main things we got up in Katherine.
Cooper's blog.
From the Adelaide River, we went down to Katherine, with our first stop being Edith Falls. At Edith Falls, we had a swim which was fun, as the water was cold and relaxing. That night we stayed out under the stars.
Once checked into Katherine the next day, we went on a bike ride to the hot springs where the water is not hot, but not cold. At the springs there was a mud slide where you would slide down a muddy hill into the water. Thought mum was going to kill me as I was wearing my good shorts! Lucky dad was able to get the mud out before mum saw !
Also at Katherine, we were able to catch up with our new friends from Adelaide River, as they were staying at the same caravan park.
We also went on a Katherine Gorge tour where we see freshwater crocodiles. They were small but you wouldn't swim with them. We were able to swim on the tour, but a bit further up the gorge, within the rapids.
Katherine also has some caves which we visited, called Cutta Cutta Caves. In the caves there were sparkly limestone formations as well as a massive olive pythin! Our guide told us of times where the caves were used for parties as well as when the army used them to practice shooting bu using the stalactites as targets.
Another thing we did during our time in Katherine was attend a camp fire dinner, hosted by Marksy. For dinner we ate camel sausages, crocodile sausage rolls, barramundi, lamb and beef. The food was the best. We also had a go of spinning the billy to make the cuppa teas. Spinning the billy is where, once you put the tea leaves in the water, you spin the billy 3 times over your head to mix it up. Although I spun it 4 times, we all won a certificate for how good we were.
