As everyone will agree, there is a limit of hot, clear days spent on the beach, relaxing and fishing followed by balmy nights by the camp fire that one can endure, so we decided to pack things up and travel back to Darwin to check out the Beer Can Regetta.
Must say the regetta was a bit disappointing. This was mainly due as a result of only a small number of boats entered, as well as the fact that the boats themselves were not made 100% from cans, but were actually cans stuck to boats!. Additionally a low, low tide meant most of the events were not really happening). But the regetta was still worth visiting (as I can at least say I have been there!)
Thus, after spending the last week in the wilderness, we decided the next stop needed to be somewhere where people are. After looking at all our options we decided to visit Charlie, who in his younger days was actually a movie star. His well known appearances were in Crocodile Dundee #1 and #2. For those who are thinking Charlie Who? read on as I will let Hunter explain.
Hunter's Blog:
At the Adelaide River, we went to the Douglas Hot Springs where the water is really hot in some streams, but really cold in others. I swam where two streams met as the water was just right.
Also at Adelaide River, we went to the Butterfly Gorge, which was really wide and deep. Getting there we needed to test out the 4wd, as the road was really rough and we needed to cross 5 creeks.
And we met Charlie at the pub, the water buffalo from crocodile Dundee. He was stuffed.
Another thing we did was made some new friends, Tristian, Ashley and Ryan, who just happen to live at Penrith. Small world ah!
PS. Got another truck to add to my collection. This one with Adelaide River and Charlie the buffalo on the side.
