Well after it rained all night we were up early and on the road. We drove and drove till we saw steam coming out the ground! At first I didn't know what it was!!!! As we were driving we saw a sign for Waitakei Thermal Valley. So we thought we'd better investigate. And investigate we did. We walked through the bush after pushing our way through the Alpacas (all TWO of them), and came across some amazing thermal water pools ,the ground was even hot and clay like.
After crawling under the alpacas we were safe and back at the carpark so we were given some chicken food by the man in the shop. The chickens, turkeys, and peacock all rushed over like they had never been fed! We spent ages feeding them and picking the chicks up but the chicken that liked me best was the red one. One peacock just kept his tail feathers up trying to scare the chickens but they didn't care! It was time to drive on.
We ended up in rotorua where we parked by lake Okareka. When we got there Eli and I went for a swim and afterwards we built a nesting box for the ducks. After we had dinner and had showers we finished of our nesting box. We all squeezed into bed to watch Hop then went to sleep.
Today we were up early to go to the Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland. It was fantastic. We saw so many cool things like the Champagne pool, which was mums favorite and the Devils bath
which was bright green due to the sulphar and ferrous salts. We spent about three hours looking at all these boiling mud pits, waterfalls, acid lakes and geysers. We even took our own sandwiches and had them by the frying pan flat which was full Of bubbling hot springs. The whole place stank like boiled eggs because of the hydrogen sulphide in the air. We just thought Dad had an upset stomach!!
Because Eli and I were on good form mum and dad took us to the Agro Adventures where we went on the "shweeb", which is like a suspended pod which you pedal and race the person next to you on the track. I beat Eli. Wahoo!! Then we done the "free fall extreme" which is like skydiving. They gave Eli a superman suit to wear. It was really scary but loads of fun and made your face feel like the skin was going to be blown off! Eli came out with his hair sticking up all over the place. Even though we were having fun the road was calling so we moved on again.
And ended up in Waihi Beach, in the Bay of Plenty. The sun is out so dad was straight in the surf and Eli and I played a bit of rugby and investigated. We have found a stream full of eels so we are going to feed them tomorrow so if you don't here from me again you know it has gone terribly wrong!
