Homeward bound.....
Up early to get ready to catch the boat to the airport...yes you can even travel by boat to the airport in Venice! We arrived with plenty of time, which was just as well as we were a bit concerned about the weight of the cases. We were flying with Easyjet back to London Gatwick, and had a luggage allowance of 20 kg each. They can be quite strict with the rules if overweight. Well we were three kilos over apparently! We had bought a few things but didn't think it would be much. They wanted an extra €14 per kilo so off we went to try to sort it out! Lauri had his suit in one of the cases and we found that you could take that as carryon so that accounted for some. Took my coat out and put in the suit bag. Then we took our little picnic set we had in there and put it with the other carryon. Back to the checkin and she said we were 0.1 kg over and still wanted to charge the £14! Eventually she let us go without the charge. BUT... We had totally forgot with all this kerfuffle that there were knives etc in the picnic set! So of course we were stopped at security and he scrutinised it all! Lost our knives and a corkscrew, but apparently it is ok to travel with forks! No big deal, we'll just put some extra old knives from home in there. Felt a bit stupid that we had forgotten what was in there though!
Our flight from Venice was on schedule and on arrival at Gatwick we had to call the driver we had organised for our transfer to Heathrow. But our phone with the global sim, which had worked fine all through Italy once we had fixed it, would not get any service in Gatwick. Therefore we could not make contact. Memories of our first day in Pisa! I went back into the airport and found some lovely guys at reception who were kind enough to call him. And then we were on our way! Arrived with plenty of time at Heathrow but the checkin queue was crazy long. All went smooth though.
