Today we all headed up to the local caves known as the Tiger´s cave because it use to be a popular haunt for jaguars (close but not quite). It was quite a trek and Suzy still hasn´t learnt that it is a bad idea to wear sandals in the jungle and she was bitten by ´the mother of all ants´ ´who was ´at least a foot long´. After 40min through the jungle we agreed that it felt about the same as the sauna the night before by the time we arrived at the cave, which was huge. It was at this point that the guide decided to tell us we would need our swimsuits to go any further into the cave.
Nate, Gisela and I decided that we would go ahead in rolled up trousers or underwear and had to make a rather nervous leap into the huge dark pool below. The photos make it seem very light because of the flash but it is pitch black that you have to jump into and if the guide hadn´t done it first you would have had more luck persuading me to dance like a chippendale in front of a big audience on a cruise ship....
Once we´d swum around a bit with the help of the guide´s torch we went further into the cave to say hello to the bats (and lord knows what else) before heading back out up the precariously positioned ladder and dripping our way back to the lodge to relax.
That night Ian was sick as a dog so we spent the whole next day lounging around, sleeping and catching up on the diary as it rained the whole day.
