After enjoying breakfast with a cat on my lap the whole time we headed off in some kayaks to take a bit of a gander round the local area (the only way to get around as there are no roads) with Nate, Kelsey, Gisela and Richard. It was pretty hot so it didn´t take long before we decided to stop and take a dip in the river, which was the perfect temperature. Though my watch has now become fish food.
20min downstream we stopped at the hot springs which you smell before you see because of the sulphur. Not very enticing but just what our tired arms needed. Suzy didn´t stay in too long as she felt something bite her ankle and didn´t want to hang around long enough to find out what.
Once fully relaxed we set off again to try and find some lunch, including Suzy´s now waterlogged watch which she forgot to take off before getting in. Pretty glad we both opted for cheap watches (and rings) before leaving as Nate and Kelsey´s wedding rings also started to change colour due to the sulphur in the water. After a little hunting we came across a riverside restaurant which sold some fish soup. Basically broth with a whole fish (eyes, scales fin and all) hanging out the bowl but at least it was definitely fresh.
After (nearly) finishing lunch we kayaked back up to Finca Tatin for a wood fired sauna and a few intermittent dips in the river to cool off. It was quite strange to sit in a sauna with an iron oven and chimney that both glowed bright red until you put some more water on it. I think I prefer the ones with stones.
Finally, and much to our disappointment we tucked into fish for dinner as well. It´s certainly not a hard life but any more fish and I´ll turn into one and go and look for my watch.
