Ian & Claire's Adventure
Day 3 - The Inka Trail
After a night of continuous rain we were woken at 6am to a fabulous view, clloudy, misty over the mountains (see photo), but drizzly and it soon became apparent that day 3 was not going to be the unforgettable stunning view day thayt it was supposed to be but a rainy cloudy day instead. We had to walk for 16KM (9hrs) up some bits but down lots. At some moments the clouds cleared at saw some beautiful views, but mainly it was pretty gruelling.
We met up with teh others for lunch where we tried to dry off a bit, removing our stupid (useful ) ponchos. To keep our spirits up Aussie Mat and others set riddles for the rest of us (two men at a restaurant, one orders Albatross soup. When he tasted it he ran outside and killed himself) and the rather frustraiting game (to those of us not paying enough attention) of shooting people and then working out who died. Cheers Andreya.
Ponchos on, we set off afetr lunch at a pretty good pace. When we reached Phuyupatamarca a few uf us had a chance to see he only brief view of the valley and two birds of prey.
We met up with everyone at the ruins then started the steep decent down the steps which proved a bit too much for the old joints. At one point Claires knee gave in. Luckily Efrain was there to strap it up and between Claires knee and my trapped nerve (in my knee too) we hobled down together. Just before the camp we went to a museum where there were fabulous orchids and soem sinister pickled snakes and stuffed animals.
At the camp, after usual Milo and popcorn, we paid 5 sol each for the privelage of a hot shower. We had our final meal cooked by Guido ( a feast of spaghetti, stuffed chilli peppers, fried chicken and salads) and hot sangria. During dinner we entertained ourselves by turning James' Afro into a Krusty the clown wig (see photos). After dinner we presented the cook and porters with thier tips and were treated to a song. We all bought some beers and then headed off to the disco. All of thre other trecking groups were there too including a rowdy bunch of Brazillians. They were extremely aggressive and teratorial on the dance floor so we had to get up and show them that we can dance too. At this point and particularly aggressive (and bonkers) Brazillian nicknamed La Paz (because of her very tight motifed t-shirt) pounced on Evan and made him hers. At one point there was a joint excape attempt as James distraced her with his hair as Evan dropped backwards behind a wall and ran for his life. No help from Casey. We all found this hilarious and we left around midnight as we knew we had to be up around 4.30am
